Introduction






















This assignment will be developed during the e-learning week. Students are therefore encouraged to use http://eecon2015.blogspot.sg/ to upload the material collected from Group assignment 1.

The blog should also be used as a platform for peer teaching. In other words, the blog should be used as a forum for discussion. In the light of this each group is required to comment on the material up-loaded by all other groups with the intention to help them improve their work.

All the material uploaded should be A3 format and should be design to be assembled to form a coherent booklet.

On Monday, the 19th of January, all groups are required to pin up their A3s in the classroom. 
Following the comments given by the lecturers each group is encourage to improve their work and submit both a hard and a soft copy on Wednesday the 21st of January at 3pm.


This group assignment entails two activities.

Activity 1: Site Study
This activity will be split into two tasks:
Task 1: Data collection from the site
Task 2: Data analysis

Activity 2: Case study analysis
Task 1: Case study research
Task 2: Watch a documentary and resume what you learned from it.



Important:
Students are strictly advised to use hand drawn sketches & diagrammatic representations of conclusions and ideas. Use of images such as photos and visuals collected from the internet are prohibited.
All visual information should be interpreted by the students and submitted as original drawings. Conclusions should be expressed in diagrammatic form and by sketch rather than by text.

Note:
1- Represent in A3 format the conclusions taken from both activity 1 and 2. 
2- Make sure that both the blog posts and the booklets submitted on the 21st of January identify: The name or number of the group, the name of the group members and the site which the group analysed.
3- Articulate the pages in a way that they can be gathered to form a coherent booklet of the topic.

Activity 2 / Task 2 -Video

a) Watch one of the following documentaries and resume what you learned from it.



b) Post a reflection on questions such as:

* What was the message of the film? What is the beauty of that message? Why is it relevant?
What did you learn? What can you do with it?
* How does the theme of the documentary relate to EECon?
* How does the building combine tradition with modern needs and technology?
Is the building sensitive to culture and tradition?
Is the building sensitive to local materials and ways of building?
How does the building use passive and active ways of controlling the elements and the levels of human comfort?


c)  Post a sketch of the film.

d) Comment on each others posts so that you can improve your work for the pin up on the 19th of January.

Activity 2 / Task 1 - Case Study: Identify 3 Strategies

a) Find a relevant case study. Justify the reason for your choice.

b) Identity 2 passive and 1 active strategies of design to control the elements and assure human comfort. 

c) Relate the design  strategies  with the building's context.

b) Comment on each-other's posts so that you can improve your work for the pin up on the 19th of January.



Notes: 
You can use more than one case study to complete this activity
Use diagrams and sketches to describe each strategy. 

Activity 1 /Task 2 - Site Analysis

a) Post the conclusions from your site analysis in A3 format. Make use of diagrams and sketches to represent your ideas.

b) Post the SWOT analysis of the site.

c) Comment on each other posts so that you can improve your work before the pin-up on the 19th of January.
